Recently I decided it was time to try playing as a Blood Elf. Since I wasn’t up for grinding my way to higher levels (again), I decided to buy the Zygor Horde Guide and see if it would really help level my character faster. Let me tell you what I’ve learned so far.

Some History

I hadn’t found previous leveling guides to be of much use. As much as anything else, that’s because of the way you had to keep jumping in and out of the game to consult the guide. It was a major headache. Eventually, I set up a second computer. I played the game on one and read the guide on the other. Not only was it a pain in the neck, but it disrupted the flow and pulled my head out of the game world whenever I had to consult the guide.

Why Zygor Guides are the Best

Zygor Guides work within World of Warcraft. How is that different than the old guides I used? It means that the guide information appears in a window right inside the game. With this kind of presentation, the information is much more accessible, and you can stay “in” the game, which makes the whole experience much smoother and more fun.

You’re also in control of the amount of information the guide gives you. If I just want to focus on in-the-moment action, I can close the Zygor Guide window completely. You can have a small window with the minimal amount of information, just enough to let you know what your next objective is. If I really want help, I can switch to the large Zygor Guide window with just a click, and get tons of information about my current situation and what I need to do next.

Another feature I love is the distance and direction arrow. This puppy always points to the next objective, and updates in real time so I always know where I need to be heading. It’s a great time saver, particularly once you have a flyer and can go directly toward your objective. You get all the information you need without ever having to look away from the game.

But Does It Work?

If you’re like me you’re probably thinking this all sounds really cool, but are wondering if my Zygor Horde Guide actually helped me to level faster? Well, when I was ready to test the guide for the first time, my brother offered to escort me with one of his characters that was several levels higher than mine. I told him about my Zygor Horde Guide and that I wanted to do this on my own to see how it went. We both started playing, and he checked in on me a few hours later. His reaction says all you need to know about how well these guides work. His first words were, “Hey! How the bleep did you get up to that level so fast? Where do I get a copy of that guide?”
