Final Fantasy XIII Opening

Graphics

The graphics are amazing. There really is just so much detail in everything that the rare low-res texture won’t bother you too much. It’s hard to imagine any game of this scope having better graphics.

Story

The story provides ample twists and turns to satisfy any Final Fantasy fan. The ending is great, but it isn’t all happy (no more spoilers than that, though). This is probably the highlight of the entire game.

Battle Gameplay

The battle system is fun but flawed. There are consistently occurring glitches that are outright saddening to see. At least there is only one monster that causes this horrible glitch.

Leveling System

The leveling system is great fun! It makes leveling hard enough without making it overbearingly difficult. It is remiscent of Final Fantasy X’s Sphere Grid, which is definitely not a bad thing.

Pacing and Exploration

The game is the most linear Final Fantasy to date, beating out FFX in that department. The pacing of the story and the game benefit from this linearity. It does, however, extremely limit exploration.

Continuing Playability

There are plenty of things to do after you’ve beaten the game. There are lots of extra-hard missions and plenty of leveling opportunities to reward yourself with. It is true, however, that there really aren’t any mini games to further entertain the player.

Import Friendly?

This game is not import friendly. It is region free on the PS3, but there is LOT of speaking and text in Japanese. Almost all of it. Without knowing Japanese, it’s essentially impossible to understand what’s going on in the story.
